In the spring of 2003, Susan Seago and Reesa Barton had a desire to share their gardening and retail experience by opening a retail garden center. They also wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city of Atlanta. With the help of friends who are long-time residents of the Summerville community, they were able to purchase a suitable site for the garden center and building began in January 2004.
Fine View Garden Center opened on April 16, 2004. Although the main building is complete, future plans include a gift shop and a community meeting room to be constructed on each side. Additional space has been constructed to provide shade for those plants that need it and to allow customers to shop in comfort.
A limited selection of gifts are now available and when completed, the gift shop will offer a wide range of floral related items to include cards, art, pots, shirts, and many other gift ideas. Local artisans’ work may also be displayed and purchased in the future.
The community room will be available to garden clubs, senior citizen groups, and others who wish to hold an occasional meeting at the garden center. The room will also be used for seminars on gardening subjects.
Seminars will be offered seasonally on Saturday. There will be guest speakers occasionally. The 2006 schedule includes subjects such as care of roses, composting, shade and sun gardens, butterfly gardening, design, and making garden items such as concrete planters. Anyone interested in these sessions may call the store during business hours for a schedule.

“Let’s Talk Plants”
Our theme, “Let’s talk plants,” says it all. We sell plants, design with plants, mulch plants, and sell items related to the garden. We offer quality plant products, from annuals and perennials to trees, shrubs, vines, or vegetables. We have a full line of plant material, and if we don’t have it in-house, we will do our best to get it. Special orders for large quantities of plants are available. We also invite professional landscapers to let us help fill their plant and soil needs.
Our landscape design and installation services let you get a handle on your own yard. Our in-house designer is available on an appointment basis to visit with you and discuss your needs and wants.
Soils, mulch, and sand are available for sale in bulk. Buying by the bobcat scoop is more economical as well as environmentally sound, so bring your truck in and fill it up.
The garden center is open year-round. Many of the holidays will bring special items for sale. Customers are encouraged to shop regularly to be aware of the newest items in stock.
Susan and Reesa hope you will visit them at Fine View Garden Center. They look forward to sharing their knowledge, products, and services with you.
